BUSY BEE MONTESSORI
Mount Prospect, IL

Crowned with a butterfly-shaped roof, our design of this school offers children multiple ways to choose their own daily adventure via exploration and links to nature, in line with the Montessori method. A central common activity space encourages interaction and play with textured surfaces, wall cubbies, and spaces for climbing and sitting. Clerestories flood classrooms with daylight, directing gazes skyward while an outdoor playground brings children back down to earth with space for planting vegetables. Further tying in with nature, the design prioritizes sustainable features, including rainwater harvesting and geothermal heating and cooling.
